DAY 105

Philiy - this one is for you. Can you guess where we are?? Wish you were here!

DAY 104

Yep - not in Delhi any more. Back in McLeod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh.

DAY 103

After a 10 hour flight home to Delhi and a day at the office falling asleep on my keyboard, we're on the sleeper train heading for the hills in search of the Dalai Lama.

DAY 102

As I enjoy the sunshine in Manchester, Ed and the boys enjoy the monsoon in Delhi... rain is much better in India.

DAY 101

I'm not entirely convinced by Manchester, but the shopping is good and Chinatown is kind of cool. And I got to see my lovely friend Isobel which was the highlight of my trip :-)

DAY 100

Day 100 and I'm not in Delhi, I'm in Manchester. This was the view from my hotel window, of the crazy carousel that has been temporarily installed for the summer.

DAY 99: THREE MONTHS (AND A BIT) IN INDIA

It's a bit late, the image quality isn't very good and it's edited badly (sorry Andrew), but here is our third little film to mark three months in India. Louie introduces you to the game 'carom' - a new favourite in our house.

Here's the link: http://youtu.be/IpXCK-57TN8

Hope you like it!

DAY 98

This is the first time I've seen a cow wandering around the streets of our residential area (called 'colonies' in Delhi). Just after I took this photo it lay down in the shade and looked a bit sorry for itself :-(

DAY 97

We went to a flamenco performance at the Spanish cultural centre today: flamenco meets Indian Bharatnatyam dance... they have common roots, apparently. It was good. Delhi is great you know.

DAY 95

Our friend Sofie took this when she was here a couple of weeks ago. Louie and Ed 1, Oz and me 0.

DAY 93

I love these haystacks. Loads of them on the road between Chandigarh and Delhi. These aren't the best ones I saw, but I couldn't keep asking my colleagues to pull over so I could take photos of them.

DAY 92

I'm in Chandigarh for the night, for a meeting tomorrow with government officials. This was at a roadside dhaba or restaurant that we stopped at. You can't quite see, but the fan is hooked up to some water jets and it blows a fine mist of water over everything and everyone. Great until you want to sit down on a wet chair.

DAY 90

Peaches, mangoes, lychees and jamun ... all more or less in season at the moment. I think lychees are my favourite. It's a tough call against mangoes though.

DAY 89

We went to a kids' workshop thing the other day and the boys made these pots. They were very pleased with themselves.

DAY 88

It's not a very good photo but this is the sideboard that we bought the other day. It's now in our house, but it looks a bit lonely without the rest of our things which are STILL stuck in Mumbai :-(

DAY 87

iphoto is being weird and won't let me crop this. This is in the market near our house.

DAY 86

Completely out of the blue we have had the most amazing weather today - cool and breezy and not a hint of humidity. Very different to the last few hot and sticky days. Here are the boys on the balcony. Louie is setting up our new favourite game: carom.

DAY 84

I love this sign. It looks like the kids have gone shopping with a bell hop. Or maybe I've just been spending too much time in hotels.

DAY 83

So we went to Noida today. Technically that should be NOIDA because it's an acronym for New Okhla Industrial Development Area, but everyone calls it Noida and it's become a word in its own right. It's on the outskirts of Delhi, on the other side of the Yamuna River. It's a pretty weird place. On the one hand, there's quite a lot of green scrubland, and everything is quite far apart, connected by well maintained roads. But there is a huge amount of construction: check out the buildings under construction in the photo. What are they for? Who is going to use them? They seem so out of place. And then there are the cows as you can see here, and if you look carefully a whole herd of water buffalo walking down the central green bit. We did buy a very nice sideboard though from a big furniture warehouse. Will post a photo when it's delivered.

DAY 82

Continuing with my 'things on bikes' theme, this is a mobile shop specialising in items for children and women: toys, balloons, nail polish, bindis... doing the rounds of the neighbourhoods in Noida (see Day 83).

DAY 81

Stuck in traffic in Chennai. The Tamil script is so fabulous. Next time I go I'll try and get some photos of the painted billboards.

DAY 80

I am slightly obsessed with these giant tiffin boxes. We have a plan to buy one for the kids' lego, to separate it into colours. These ones are in the restaurant of the hotel in Chennai.

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

DAY 79

I'm in Chennai for work. This is my ridiculous hotel room. It has an open plan bathroom! My friend and colleague described the hotel as a bit like a Norwegian youth hostel... but I think it's more swish than that. I'm a day behind on the photos... will try and catch up tomorrow.

DAY 78

I was served this with my samosa in the British Council cafe - thinking about importing it to the UK.

DAY 77

This is taken from the inside of Connaught Place - a huge roundabout with streets of shops and restaurants surrounding it in two concentric circles. I've posted a photo of it before but I didn't think it gave you a good idea of what it looks like...

DAY 76

We have our second visitor - Sofie! So we have been perfecting our tourist itinerary around Delhi, including a drive past the imposing presidential estate: Rashtrapati Bhavan.
